Local Community Volunteer Response to COVID 19- West Coast COVID 19 Meitheal

As our communities face the current COVID crisis, community clubs and groups from the parishes of Kilmurry Ibrickane and Miltown Malbay are joining forces to provide a community volunteer response designed to delivery critical support to the most vulnerable in our communities.

Clare County Council’s Rural & Community staff, representatives of Clare Volunteer Centre, Clare Public Participation Network (PPN), Clare Local Development Company (CLDC) together with An Garda Síochána, Health Service Executive (HSE) and Department of Social Community & Family Affairs (DSCFA) have delivered a model for delivering essential community-based services which will ensure that the most vulnerable in our society are assisted, by drawing on the volunteering spirit of communities across County Clare.

A dedicated telephone helpline for members of the public is now available on 1890 252 943 through which calls from the public, for assistance with groceries, medicine, fuel etc., will be circulated to registered Community Groups & Volunteers for response.

The West Coast COVID 19 Meitheal will act as the point of contact for this helpline and will take responsibility for the tasking of volunteers in the parishes of Kilmurry Ibrickane and Miltown Malbay and currently includes volunteers from Kilmurry Ibrickane GAA, Kilmurry Ibrickane Ladies Club, St Joseph’s Miltown Malbay GAA, Miltown Malbay Community Centre, Spraoi Childcare Centre, Spanish Point Golf Club, Kilmurry Ibrickane IFA, Kilmurry Ibrickane Active Retirement, Mullagh Youth Club, Miltown Malbay Community Enhancement, Quilty Action Group, and other clubs/organisations from the locality. If you are a member of any of these organisations and wish to volunteer some your time over the coming weeks, please then email your contact details and availability to miltowncommunitycentre@gmail.com. More details can then be provided.

Thanks to all those who have volunteered so far and let us know if you would like to help!

We are in this together.
